Lupins - Seeding and Growing on

For Gardeners in Kingston, Ontario.

Assorted Colours of Gallery Lupins

2025 Seed Colour Mix

Lupins are actually very easy to propagate from seed by following a few simple steps. I should add, that depending upon the weather in early/mid Spring, that starting Lupins early and planting them out early (well before last Frost date) can result in blooms that same year instead of waiting for blooms the following Spring. They are very hardy! I have used Gallery Mix and Russell Hydrid Seeds from several sources initially. Now I collect my mown seed from specific colours and wait and see if I finally got the rainbow. Russell Hybrids can be purchased by individual colour. so Yellow has finally appeared in my selection.

Lupin Seedlings really ready to out!

Soak Seeds in water for approximately 24 hours.

Place seeds on top of the soil and cover with moistened vermiculate to keep moist. I cover with a dome and place on a heat mat.

Sprouts will appear at different times over next couple weeks, but sprout very quickly (a few days).

I then bump them up to small growing pots and let them grow on in an unheated greenhouse with out cover (unless temperature drops too much) until ground can be worked enough to plant them out.
